Nofs presents tribute to Belding Middle School, School Wellness Award honoree

LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Mike Nofs on Wednesday presented Belding Middle School with a special tribute from the Michigan Legislature, signed by Gov. Rick Snyder and Nofs, to commemorate its achievement as a 2015 School Wellness Award honoree.

“It was a privilege to recognize the great work taking place at Belding Middle School today,” said Nofs, R-Battle Creek. “Under Principal Joel Olson’s guidance, Belding Middle School has earned the bronze medal in the School Wellness Award program. I’m proud of the hard work and creativity of the Belding Middle School staff; they’re a great example for other schools throughout our district and the state on what it takes to make sure our kids are healthy and our schools are places where our students can truly excel.”

The School Wellness Award recognizes schools that foster an environment of healthy eating and good physical activity habits, which are proven to help students learn and succeed in school. The program works with schools statewide to establish Coordinated School Health Teams, complete the Healthy School Action Tools and implement sustainable policy and environmental changes.

Belding Middle School is part of the Belding Area Public School District and serves nearly 500 students from sixth to eighth grade.
