LANSING, Mich.—On Thursday night, Sen. Mike Nofs, R-Battle Creek, issued the statement below following Gov. Rick Snyder’s fourth State of the State address at the Capitol in Lansing.
“The governor has painted a clear picture both of our accomplishments thus far and some ambitious goals for 2014. Michigan truly is the comeback state and the economic gains we have experienced over the last three years should remain a source of optimism for hardworking Michigan families.
“Reinventing Michigan has been a top priority for the Legislature. Once again, in 2013 Michigan’s budget was structurally balanced and passed ahead of schedule, turning around a once- $1.5 billion budget deficit. We’ve worked hard to make investments in key areas to ensure that our workforce and job providers can thrive, while also cutting state regulations and making it easier to do business with Michigan.
“The goals for the 2014 legislative session will remain largely unchanged. We will continue to strive to cut wasteful spending and focus on support for hardworking families. My top priority has been and will continue to be jobs.
“With our gains in private sector jobs and the first population increase in a decade, Michigan has become a model for successful recovery. I’m looking forward to working with Governor Snyder to keep the positive momentum rolling into 2014.”
